$200.00- APPLICATION FOR IMPROVEMENT PERMIT/ SITE SOIL EVALUATION

After the application for an Improvement Permit is received and the applicant notifies the Environmental Health Section that the lot is ready to be evaluated, a detailed site/soil evaluation is performed on at least 2.5 acres. Each lot is evaluated on the basis of six factors: 1) Topography and Landscape Position; 2) Soil Wetness Conditions; 3) Soil depth to rock; 4) Restrictive horizons in the soil; 5) Available Space to install a septic system; 6) Other applicable factors such as distance to a large capacity well. Due to strict and specific rulings regarding procedures we must follow in performing site/soil evaluations, we will be unable to process your application until the items on the application are complete including the site plan. Applicants are advised by telephone and/or in writing as to the suitability of their lot. If an Improvement Permit can be issued it will show the location of the house and sewage system. It will have specifications for the sewage system. You can not obtain a building permit with the Improvement Permit.

AUTHORIZATION TO CONSTRUCT (PERMIT)

$200.00- CONVENTIONAL SEWAGE SYSTEM-

An Authorization to Construct is needed to obtain a building permit. This permit has specific information about the septic system that a contractor will need to install the septic system. The Operation Permit is needed to obtain permanent power from building inspections.

$400.00- SEWAGE SYSTEM WITH A PUMP-

The Authorization to Construct contains a detailed description of the materials to be used in the installation of the sewage system and how it is to be installed. Most pump systems are site specific. The Environmental Health Specialist makes several trips to the site to design the system and be on the site while the system is being installed. This also includes setting or adjusting the pump, gauges and pressure head and a final inspection and issuance of an Operational Permit. The Operation Permit is needed to obtain permanent power from building inspections.

$50.00 - EXISTING SEWAGE SYSTEM CHECKS-

Any system check required to obtain a building permit or permanent power,  subdivide the property, move a private residence, etc. The Environmental Health Specialist locates the original sewage system permit if possible. A site visit to the new lot is made to confirm the location of the sewage system and to make a visual inspection for signs of malfunction. The septic system must meet current setback requirements to any new foundation or property lines.

$200.00 - WELL REPAIR PERMIT-

A well repair permit is issued when an existing well needs to be repaired. A well repair means work involved in deeping or changing depths, reaming, sealing, lining, perforating, screening or cleaning, acidizing or redeveloping a well. Repairs to a well with the well head terminating below ground includes extending the well casing above land surface and grouted to a depth of 20 feet.

$300.00- NEW WELL OR  REPLACEMENT WELL CONSTRUCTION PERMIT-

The Environmental Health Specialist visits the site to determine the well location. The Specialist will issue a permit after the fee is paid. The Specialist will visit the site during the construction phase of the well to determine compliance with State Well Regulations as well as Alamance County Well Regulations. The Specialist will visit the site again after the pump has been installed to make sure that the pump installer and well contractor properly completed the well head. Water samples for coliform bacteria, inorganic's including lead and nitrates will be collected within 30 days after final approval of the well.
