The Water and Sewer Section of the Health Department inspects wells and water supply systems to make sure they meet state standards. They also investigate possible waterborne illnesses and perform soil evaluations for residential sewage systems.
Churches (not connected to a municipal or other water supplier) which provide water to at least 25 people at least 60 days out of the year are considered public water supply systems. Local Health Departments in North Carolina are not allowed to take or analyze the water samples require for compliance with the Safe Drinking Water Act.
