SYMPTOMS:
Discharge from the penis or vagina.  Painful or frequent need to urinate.  Pain in lower abdomen in women.

HOW IS IT TRANSMITTED?:
Sex.

IS IT CURABLE?:
Yes.

POSSIBLE RESULTS IF NOT TREATED:
Sterility in both men and women.  Pelvic inflammatory disease in women.  Eye damage or pneumonia in newborn babies (the eye drops usually used at birth do not prevent this eye damage).

DIAGNOSIS & TREATMENT:
Diagnosis requires examination of urethral discharge and special tests.  Treatment with antibiotics is the most effective cure.
