Alamance County and its municipalities produced and disposed of 102,304 tons of the waste in FY 2000-01 (at the Alamance County Landfill). These tonnage figures do not include yard waste (6,319 tons recycled), metal/appliances ( 978 tons recycled), or scrap tires that were transported out-of-county for disposal/recycling (1643 tons). An estimate of the waste disposed by sector is shown in Figure 1. These calculations are based on landfill reports as generated by the County’s scale software program, and the reports from other landfills that received Alamance County waste.
Alamance County estimates that 35,020 tons of the waste disposed is residential waste, 59,960 tons is Commercial/ Industrial waste and 7,234 is construction and demolition waste. Yard waste, appliances/metal and tires make up 8% of the waste stream. An unknown amount of land clearing and inert debris is also disposed of in private, permitted and non-permitted sites within the county.
