APPLIANCES and METAL
Approximately 1,100 tons of appliances and other metals are accepted at the landfill each year.
Appliances are weighed on the scale at no charge, then deposited at the appropriate area. Free disposal is only for items listed by North Carolina's white goods program. The White Goods Program established by the State requires that a disposal charge be collected on each appliance when the item is purchased. These funds are paid to the State and revenue from these funds cover Freon removal and disposal of the unit. Freon is removed by a licensed person at the landfill before any white goods are loaded and hauled to a recycler.
Other metal is charged at the fee of $36 per ton.
