The First Step in taking out a restraining/protective order is to first visit the Family Justice Center located 1950 Martin Street, Burlington NC.  The counselors there will assist with paperwork for starting the process of taking out a restraining/protective order.

The Domestic Violence Unit was created in July 2002 using special federal and state grants to improve courthouse services for victims of domestic violence. The Family Justice Center of Alamance County opened in July 2010.

The Final Step in taking out a restraining/protective order is to file those papers with the Clerk of Superior Court’s Office, at the historic courthouse located 1 Court Square, Graham NC.  The Clerk’s Office will assist with filing the orders, court dates, show cause hearings, protective order extensions and protective order violations.
