Agricultural Advisory Board

Purpose:  To review and approve applications for qualified farmland to be enrolled in Voluntary Agricultural Districts throughout the county.  This board will also advise the Board of Commissioners on projects, programs, and issues affecting the farm economy or activities that will affect the agricultural districts.  The board can make recommendations to changes in the ordinance and perform other agricultural related tasks assigned by the Board of Commissioners. Requirements for Membership:  Each board member shall be a county resident and registered to vote in Alamance County; five of the seven members shall be actively engaged in farming.  G.S. 106-735 through 106-744.  Established:  April 2, 2001.

Burlington Board of Adjustment

EMS Peer Review Committee

Purpose:  Ensure that a medical review committee as referenced in G.S. 143-518(a)(5), or sub-committee thereof, analyzes system data to evaluate the ongoing quality of patient care and medical direction within the system; use information gained from system data analysis to make recommendations regarding the content of educational programs for EMS personnel; review treatment protocols of the EMS System and make recommendations to the medical director for changes; and establish a written procedure to guarantee reviews for EMS personnel temporarily suspended by the medical director.  Requirements for membership:  Physicians, nurses, medical facility personnel such as pharmacists or respiratory therapists, EMS educators, County government officials, and EMS providers.  G.S. 143-508(b) and 143-509(12).  Established:  February 17, 2003.

Purpose:   To identify and review domestic violence-related deaths, including homicides and suicides, and facilitate communication among the various agencies and organizations involved in domestic violence cases to prevent future fatalities.  Requirements for membership: applicant must have knowledge, experience or expertise in preventing domestic violence. Cannot have been convicted of a domestic violence-related crime, had a protective order taken out against them, or been a participant in a batterer intervention program. Purpose:  This committee was formed to provide advice and guidance to the Board of Commissioners regarding elderly issues.  The group also allocates funds for elderly services provided by the Home and Community Care Block Grant (Federal Title III Older Americans Act).  Requirements for Membership:  Between 12 and 21 (not to exceed 25) members supportive of the purposes of the Committee who possess qualities of leadership; employees of services agencies which compete for governmental funds to serve the elderly are not eligible to be voting members of the Committee.  Established:  February 19, 1990.  Support staff:  Linda Allison (DSS).

Piedmont Food & Agricultural Processing Center Steering Committee

Purpose:  The Steering Committee, created June 3, 2010, will consist of a County Commissioner, a County Manager (or his designee), the Cooperative Extension Director of each of the Parties (Alamance, Chatham, Durham, & Orange Counties), and a local farmer from each county.  Orange County will act as the fiscal agent and engage in grant development for regional value-added, shared-use, food and agricultural processing center.  Upon the termination of this Agreement, the Steering Committee shall automatically dissolve. Workforce Development Board

Purpose:  To set policy for the portion of the statewide workforce investment system within the Workforce Development Area, consisting of Alamance, Orange, and Randolph Counties.  The Regional Partnership Workforce Development Board's purpose is to a) provide policy guidance to and exercise oversight of activities funded under the Workforce Investment Act, which began in North Carolina on January 1, 2000, for the counties of Alamance, Orange, and Randolph in the Workforce Development Area with units of general government within the area; b) to coordinate the scope and direction of non-WIA funded employment, training, and other related services provided to the residents of the Workforce Development Area.
