ABSENTEE VOTING

 

If you are registered to vote in Alamance County, you may request an absentee ballot from the Elections Office, 115 South Maple Street, Graham, NC 27253 (Phone 570-6755). Absentee voting is allowed in all elections, except Fire District Elections, and is available as explained below:

 

By Mail

Make a handwritten request beginning 50 days prior (30 days prior in a municipal election) to but not later than the Tuesday prior to election day.  Each voter must sign the written request.  A ballot will be mailed to the voter. 

 

At the Board of Elections:

The voter, near relative (spouse, parent, child, brother, sister, grandparent, grandchild, mother-in-law, father-in-law, daughter-in-law, son-in-law, stepparent or stepchild) or verifiable legal guardian may appear at the Elections Office 50 days prior (30 days prior in a municipal election) to but not later than 5:00 p.m. on the Tuesday prior to election day and complete an Absentee application. A ballot will be mailed to the voter.

Illness or Disability - The voter, near relative (spouse, parent, child, brother, sister, grandparent, grandchild, mother-in-law, father-in-law, daughter-in-law, son-in-law, stepparent or stepchild) or verifiable legal guardian may appear at the Elections Office 50 days prior (30 days prior in a municipal election) to but not later than 5:00 p.m.  on the day prior to election day and complete an Absentee application.  A ballot will be issued. 

 

ALL VOTED BALLOTS MUST BE RETURNED TO THE BOARD OF ELECTIONS OFFICE BY 5:00 P.M. ON THE DAY BEFORE THE ELECTION. THE BALLOT MUST BE DELIVERED BY U.S. MAIL, BY THE VOTER, A NEAR RELATIVE OR VERIFIABLE LEGAL GUARDIAN.

 

In Person/No Excuse Absentee Voting

The voter appears in person, makes application and votes at the Early Voting Site all in “One Stop” – The one-stop absentee process permits a voter to appear at the Early Voting Site beginning the 3rd Thursday before the election, but no later than 1:00 p.m. on the Saturday before the election.  The voter will be allowed to apply and vote at the Early Voting Site.
