Tattoo artists are required to be permitted by the Alamance County Health Department, Environmental Health Section, on an annual basis.  If you are a tattoo artist or desire to be one, please call (336) 570-6367 or visit the Environmental Health Section at 209 N. Graham-Hopedale Road, Burlington, NC  27217 to learn what is required for a permit and/or to obtain an application for a tattooing permit.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION TO KNOW

  • No one under the age of 18 may receive a tattoo, regardless of parental consent
  • Only single-use, pre-packaged needles may be used for tattooing
  • No smoking, eating, or drinking is allowed while receiving a tattoo
  • The tattoo artist must wear gloves at all times while tattooing
  • A person shall not be under the influence of drugs or alcohol while receiving a tattoo
