Alamance County Inspections Department

The Alamance County Inspections Department provides building inspections and permitting services for all unincorporated areas of Alamance County as well as the Village of Alamance, and the towns of Elon, Gibsonville, Green Level, Haw River, Swepsonville and Ossipee.

The primary function of the Department is to promote the health, safety and welfare of the citizens of Alamance County, through the enforcement of the North Carolina State Building Code and local ordinances.

Activities include: processing applications, performing plan review, collecting fees, and issuing permits for construction activity regulated through N.C. General Statutes; conducting inspections during various phases of construction of buildings and structures, including the installation of electrical, plumbing and mechanical systems to ensure code compliance; issuing certificates of compliance and occupancy and other related activities as mandated per N.C. General Statutes.

Did You Know?

  • Beginning in January 2012, requests for inspections made by phone, fax or in person must be made before 4:00 p.m. to ensure a next day inspection. Inspections that are called in AFTER 4:00 pm cannot be guaranteed for the next business day (example: if you call on Monday at 4:10 pm, your inspection will be scheduled for Wednesday). Requests for inspections via our web site can be made up until 6:00 a.m. the same day.
  • Use of the 2012 edition of the North Carolina State Building Code is mandatory beginning June 1, 2012. All permits issued and applications received after that date will be subject to the requirements of the 2012 codes. Permits issued until June 1, 2012 will have the option of meeting either the 2009 or 2012 code requirements. Contact your inspector if you have questions.
