Work First Family Assistance
Work First Family Assistance is a short-term financial assistance program that helps people become employed. To help families, Work First provides employment services, supportive services, Medicaid, and time-limited cash assistance to families who meet income and resources guidelines.
Eligible applicants must:
� Be a U.S. Citizen or qualified alien
� Have a child in the home under the age of 18 or age 19 and expected to graduate on or before their 19th birthday
� Must have a certain degree of kinship to child in home or legal custody or guardianship of child
� Live in North Carolina
� Must have a social security number or have applied for one
� Cooperate with Child Support Enforcement Agency, unless have good cause
� Cooperate with Work First Employment Services, unless exempt
� Have income that meets program guidelines
� Have less than $3,000 in reserves
This is just a guide. An eligibility specialist at the Department of Social Services will assess your individual situation and inform you of your eligibility status.
Applications are taken by an Income Maintenance Caseworker at the Alamance County Department of Social Services on a first-come first-serve basis.
Applications for Work First must be processed within 45 days.
Bringing the following items will aid in the application process:
� Identification, including birth certificates or other proof of age for children
� Social Security Cards or numbers for all members of household (Including children)
� Proof of Residence - (Lease, rent or mortgage receipts, Utility Bill)
� Proof of Income - (Pay stubs, SSI, Social Security, Work First, Pensions or Other)
� Bank Accounts - (Recent bank statements and or passbooks, etc.)
� Utility Bills - (Gas, Electric, Phone, Water, and Sewer, etc.)
� Tax Bill/Insurance - If Homeowner
� Name and phone number of at least 1 person who can verify who lives with you
� Proof of Child Care Costs - (If employed or in school full time)
