In May 2013, Alamance County received from D. H. Griffith, Inc. a donation of a cube of steel from World Trade Center Tower 2, which was destroyed in the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.  After considerations, the decision was made to utilize the steel in a memorial honoring the first responders of the event: firefighters, police officers, emergency medical services personnel, and communications operators.  This will give our local community a permanent connection both to those who bravely faced the tragedies of 9/11 and to our local personnel who bravely give of themselves to their neighbors.

The county has contracted with Beechwood Metalworks of Burlington, NC to construct the memorial.
