Now accepting more than just paint-related material and pesticides!
Types of hazardous waste that WILL be accepted:
- Household cleaners, drain openers, toilet bowl cleaners, oven cleaners, disinfectants
- Solvents, thinners, shellacs, varnishes, sealers, wood preservatives
- Automotive products including brake fluid, antifreeze, used motor oil up to 5 gal, filters, gasoline
- Pesticides & insecticides including poisons, aerosols, weed killers
- Miscellaneous materials such as acids, bases, kerosene, batteries, photographic chemicals, pool chemicals, mercury, fluorescent tubes, CFLs
- Latex & oil based paint and spray paint
- Propane Cylinders (Grill and camp size ONLY)
Household material that WILL NOT be accepted:
- Explosives / Ammunition
- Electronics / TVs / Computers
- Radioactives / Smoke Detectors
- Medical Waste

Recycling / Convenience Center
Monday – Friday, 7:00 am – 6:00 pm; Saturday, 7:00 am – 5:00 pm; Sunday, 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm
(Except Holidays – refer to Holiday Operation Schedule)
The Landfill / Scales is for commercial/industrial garbage, large loads of residential trash, construction and demolition debris, brush/yard waste, metal, tires, so material can be weighed to determine charge. These type of materials are only accepted during scale operational hours.
The Recycling / Convenience Center is for residents to dispose of their bagged household garbage and recyclables.
Directions
From Interstate 40, take exit 148 (Hwy 54), head east on Hwy 54 approximately 8 miles, turn right onto Mineral Springs Road and follow to the end approximately 2.5 miles, turn right at stop sign onto Saxapahaw-Bethlehem Road, take immediate left onto Austin Quarter Road. The Landfill gate is approximately 1 mile on the right.
The Landfill, Convenience Center, and Recycling Centers of Alamance County may be used only for the disposal of solid waste generated in Alamance County.
