More than 75 poems will be displayed in the windows of businesses in downtown Elon,
Burlington, Graham, Saxapahaw and Mebane for the month of April. Alamance
County Public Libraries and the Burlington Writers Club solicited entries in December
2022 and January 2023, resulting in 59 poets participating in the event. The Poetry
Stroll celebrates the joy of poetry and the written word during April, which is National
Poetry Month.

“Everyone is invited to stroll through our county’s downtowns to see the great poetry on
display,” said Mary Beth Adams, Community Engagment Librarian for Alamance
County Public Libraries. “We are asking for the public’s help in choosing the best
poems through our Reader’s Choice Contest.”

Every poster has a QR code in the left corner, which links to a form where people can
vote on their top three poems. Paper forms are available at each library branch as
well, for those who prefer to submit their top poems on paper. “We also have a place
where strollers can choose another poem they think deserves recognition. We want to
celebrate these wonderful local poets and their contribution to the arts here in
Alamance County.”

There will be a reception on May 6 from 2-4 p.m. at Alamance Arts to celebrate the
poets and award the Reader’s Choice Awards. The public is welcome to come to the
reception and meet the poets!
