Aikido is a Japanese martial art that incorporates both traditional weapons techniques (primarily drawn from swordsmanship and staff) with unarmed techniques (which were drawn from Daito Ryu Aiki-jutsu). Aikido is often referred to as non-resistive, non-fighting, or as a soft-style martial art.
Aikido emphasizes a flowing flexibility and the maintenance of a stable balance. In Aikido we train to be in control of mind and body, to remain calm, and keep an alert posture. Aikido movement begins at the hara (center of the body) as a continuous and flexible motion that is graceful and spherical (giving rise to comparisons to dance motions.
You may start Aikido in soft, loose-fitting clothing. Sweatsuits are fine. The standard training attire is a gi, which can be purchased on-line.
First Class is FREE! You may pay per month at $25 or $5 per drop-in individual class.
