County Man In Jail After Ramming Two Deputy’s Patrol Cars

On Wednesday January 13, 2021 at approximately 8:20 p.m., Deputies responded to a ‘Check Well Being’ call in the 6500 block of Union Ridge Rd. in northern Alamance County. While attempting to check the status of an individual, James Lee Yancey Markley left the residence in his vehicle, hitting a Deputy’s patrol car on the way out of the driveway. A Deputy was inside the patrol car. Mr. Markley did not stop and fled the scene.

Deputies pursued Mr. Markley south on Union Ridge Rd. Mr. Markley was observed speeding and driving in a reckless manner. Mr. Markley approached the intersection of Union Ridge Rd. and Jeffries Cross Rd. where he swerved off the road narrowly missing several church signs in the intersection. Mr. Markley then struck several road signs in the same intersection. 

Mr. Markley then drove into the parking lot of Union Chapel United Church where he rammed another Deputy’s patrol vehicle. After ramming the patrol car, Mr. Markley’s vehicle was stopped allowing Deputies to immediately arrest him.

Mr. Markley is currently in the Alamance County Detention Center. 

The Highway Patrol assisted in the charges and arrest of Mr. Markley.
