On Friday, March 19, 2021, the Alamance County Sheriff’s Office Human Exploitation Team and Special Operations Unit were investigating a case when they attempted to make contact with an individual in a vehicle in the parking lot of Lowes Home Improvement in Burlington, NC. As deputies approached the vehicle, the driver tried to elude law enforcement. He then attempted to back over a deputy who was forced to the ground and pinned between the two vehicles as the suspect rammed the deputy’s vehicle. Another deputy then attempted to block the suspect in, but was unsuccessful.
 
As a result, a motor vehicle pursuit was initiated on S. Church Street and continued onto Alamance Road, before entering Interstate I-40 westbound. The pursuit was called off shortly after the suspect’s vehicle entered Guilford County.
 
As the investigation continued, Greensboro Police Department officers located the suspect’s vehicle at the Grandview Pointe Apartments in Greensboro, NC. With the assistance of the State Bureau of Investigation, the suspect was located inside of a residence in Greensboro, where he was taken into custody and identified as Dean Rene Peters.
 
Alamance County Sheriff’s Office deputies took custody of Mr. Peters and obtained charges against him for Felony Assault on Government Official, Felony Flee to Elude Arrest with Motor Vehicle, Injury to Personal Property, Resist Delay Obstruct an Investigation, Hit and Run Fail to Stop with Property Damage, Driving While License Revoked, Display Fictitious Registration Plate, Reckless Driving, and Speeding. Mr. Peters was also served with an outstanding order for arrest for Failure to Appear. Greensboro Police officers also obtained charges for Breaking and Entering and Resisting a Public Officer.
 
After Mr. Peters was evaluated at a local hospital, he was processed at the Alamance County Detention Center where he received a total of $126,000.00 secured bond. Mr. Peters has a first appearance in court on Monday March 22, 2021, at 2:00 pm.
 
As for the damage to the deputy’s vehicle, it is estimated at this time to be around $3,000.00 in damages.
