North Carolina General Statute (Chapter 14, Article 52A, § 14-402 through § 14-405) decrees that the Sheriff of each county has the authority and responsibility to issue pistol purchase permits to qualifying residents of the county and to non-residents who are collectors. Additionally, the Sheriff of each county is tasked (Chapter 14, Article 54B, § 14-415) with the issuance of concealed handgun permits for residents of their respective counties.

In Alamance County, applications for firearms permits may be turned in to the Sheriff’s Office from Monday through Friday between 8:00AM and 5:00PM.

Due to state-required notarized forms, the Alamance County Sheriff’s Office does not offer a completely-digital firearms permitting process as this would simply result in higher fees for residents for very little utility if not further burden. However, permit applications are available in digital format below; they may be filled out electronically and printed, to be turned in physically.

Additionally, the Alamance County Sheriff’s Office does not offer notarization services for forms; please seek a notary (such as at your bank) before turning in your application.
