Alamance County Online Permits and Inspections

Effective March 30, 2020, we will be using an interim policy in regards to COVID-19. You can view the policy here.

Starting April 1, 2020, the main phone number will be 336-290-0404. Please use this phone number for ALL inspections requests and inquiries.

Starting April 1, 2020, ALL inspections requested after 4:00 PM (including online) will be scheduled for the business day after next.

Starting August 1, 2020, we will no longer accept paper plans. We will only accept plans in PDF format. Please email your application and plans to planreview@alamance-nc.com.

Some online services such as applying for a permit or requesting an inspection require an online account. You may create this account during normal business hours at the Alamance County Inspections Department. A valid email address and photo ID is required.

Apply For A Permit

  1. Login using your username and password.
  2. Click Apply For A Permit. This is also located in the menu at the top of the page once you have logged in.
  3. Select the type of permit you are applying for:
    Types of Permits Available:
    • Electrical Service Change
    • HVAC Change Out
    • Simple Electrical Permit
    • Simple Gas Line Permit
    • Simple Generator Permit
    • Simple Insulation Permit
    • Simple Mechanical Permit
    • Simple Plumbing Permit
    • Water Heater Change Out
  4. Enter the property address.
  5. Enter the contractor information.
  6. Enter the information for the permit. Review your application and click the "SUBMIT" button.
  7. You will receive an email acknowledging receipt of your permit request. All permit requests will be processed in the order they are received.

Request An Inspection

  1. Login using your username and password.
  2. Click Request An Inspection. This is also located in the menu at the top of the page once you have logged in.
  3. Select the permit you would like to request an inspection for.
  4. Select the type of inspection, the date requested, and enter any comments concerning the request.

    The following rules apply to all inspection requests:

    • Requests received before 4:00 PM will be scheduled for the next business day.
    • Requests received after 4:00 PM will be scheduled for the business day after next.
    • Requests SHALL NOT include a specific time to be inspected.
    • AM or PM may be requested for concrete only. It is a request, not a guarantee.
      • An AM request means the job is ready to be inspected by 8:30 AM.
      • A PM request means the job will be ready to be inspected by 12:00 noontime.

    All daily inspections are assigned and routed to maximize staff efficiency. Inspections requiring access to secured locations should be coordinated with the assigned inspector before they leave the office.

Tip: You can request an inspection for any type of permit. You are not limited to only those that you've applied for online. Final inspections may only be requested online for certain permit types.

Make A Payment

You can now pay for all your permits online using your Visa, MasterCard, or Discover credit card. To find all permits with an outstanding balance click on View My Activity and look for the "Add to Cart" button beside your permit. Online permit applications will be available for payment once it has been approved by the Inspections Department. All permits will remain on hold until payment has been made.
