On June 17, 2021 at approximately 12:16 a.m., Alamance County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Deputies were notified by Alamance County Detention Staff that they identified suspected drugs on an inmate in the Detention Center. Deputies responded and took possession of the suspected drugs which appeared to be 0.13gm of Methamphetamine and ¾ of an Alprazolam (commonly known as Xanax) bar.

After interviewing the suspect and further investigation, Mary McDonald admitted to possessing Methamphetamine, and the pills were positively identified as Alprazolam. Ms. McDonald stated that she accidentally brought the items into the Detention Center in a hair clip that she had in her hair. Ms. McDonald was charged with two counts of Felony Possession of controlled substance in a jail facility.
