On Monday afternoon, February 14th, 2021, Deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a motor vehicle which displayed a fictitious North Carolina registration plate. The vehicle was travelling north on N. Church St., near Sellars Mill Rd. in Burlington.
As Deputies activated their blue lights and sirens, the driver fled leading Deputies on a short vehicle pursuit. As the fleeing vehicle approached the intersection of Hyde St. and Sellars Mill Rd., the driver failed to stop at a stop sign, colliding with a Sheriff’s Office K9 vehicle. The collision caused the K9 vehicle to over-turn, resulting in substantial damage. Both the Deputy and K9 were checked on-scene and did not sustain any major injuries. The driver of the fleeing vehicle and two passengers were not injured.
The driver was arrested. Burlington Police Department Officers are investigating the crash.
